Hello, everybody, welcome back to another episode of my podcast. I'm Jon Michail, and today we're going to deep dive into thought leadership. Becoming a thought leader isn't just about sharing your expertise; it's about shaping conversations, driving change, and establishing yourself as a trusted authority in your field. So let me explain. Through this presentation, we'll explore some content strategies that can help you develop thought leadership yourself. And of course, while you're doing that, elevate your personal brand to new heights. We all know that in the digital world, a big part of building authentic authority is creating valuable content. We will cover the five pillars of content creation. Whether it's blog posts, articles, videos, or podcasts, your content should provide genuine value to your audience and position you as a knowledgeable and insightful authority in your niche. It's about sharing your expertise, insights, and perspectives on topics that matter to your audience. Be really clear about that because if the topics don't matter to your audience, you could damage your brand because your audience really doesn't care about that. This is the thing with marketing your brand and marketing in general: you have to speak specifically to an audience that wants to listen and hear and take on board some of your offerings. Don't be afraid to take a stand for what you believe in and offer bold opinions that challenge the status quo. This is very important, as we've covered in different podcasts in the past in different ways. It's also about having the courage to express yourself. If you don't express yourself over time, eventually you will become depressed. If you don't believe me, try that out. It's very important that we do this. We're living in times where a lot of expression is getting suppressed for many reasons, including cancel culture. People start to hold it in, and that's not good for them.

Alright, all good with all that. Now I’ll share with you what the five content pillars are: Number one, education. Number two, promotional content. Number three, inspirational content. Number four, connection-type content. Number five, entertainment-style content that is prominent on TikTok. A serious and intentional brand balances gravitas with relatability. It's crucial that the content across all pillars maintains this balance effectively. Here’s how each content pillar can be utilized with specific content types that align with these brand attributes.

4:22
Education: The goal of education is to inform and enlighten the audience with in-depth knowledge while maintaining an approachable tone. This is not like education from a pompous university professor who acts like they know everything. Often, they are hiding behind that mask. You might know something, but that doesn't mean you know how to take action. You might know it intellectually, but that doesn't mean you can execute it. Another way to educate is through webinars and workshops, hosting sessions on industry-specific topics like leadership and personal development. These subjects require courage to speak on. Another method is guides and books, including eBooks that delve into subjects important to your audience, enhancing their knowledge and skills. Regularly posting well-researched articles that explore complex topics with clarity and insight works well for blog posts. From a visual perspective, video tutorials produced as step-by-step guides that explain complicated processes in a simple, engaging manner can also be effective.

6:18
Promotional content: The goal of this type of content is to highlight your brand's offerings and successes without overt selling, keeping the tone authoritative yet inviting. Case studies work well here, sharing detailed accounts of customer success stories or project showcases that highlight the effectiveness of your services or products. Press releases are still in vogue contrary to what you might read online. Publish news stories about your company's achievements, new product launches, or significant milestones, written in professional yet accessible language. Testimonials are crucial. Featuring real-life testimonials and reviews in a storytelling format builds credibility and trust. Be sure to verify these testimonials to ensure they are genuine. Promotional videos can also work, creating high-quality videos that promote your products and services while emphasizing their impact on your customers.

7:23
Inspirational content: The goal of inspirational content is to motivate and encourage the audience through stories of perseverance, success, and innovation. Inspirational stories about overcoming challenges and achieving goals resonate well. Even high-profile figures share personal stories about overcoming challenges, which can be very impactful. Quotes with graphics are also effective, using visually appealing graphics with inspiring quotes from thought leaders or your own leadership team. Observational podcasts discussing themes of leadership, innovation, and success stories in your industry are well-received. Guest posts from industry leaders can offer valuable insights.

9:11
Connection content: The goal of this content is to engage with the audience on a personal level, building a community and fostering relationships. Behind-the-scenes content sharing insights into company culture, events, and the making of a product is very effective. Live Q&A sessions with leaders or experts, answering real-time questions from the audience, help build a connection. User-generated content encourages your community to share their own stories or experiences related to your brand. Community spotlights highlighting members of your community or staff, showcasing their contributions or experiences, are great for building a sense of community.

11:06
Entertainment content: The goal of entertainment content is to engage and entertain in a manner that lifts spirits and strengthens brand affinity. Interactive quizzes and polls related to your industry or general interest topics entertain while subtly educating your audience. Fun videos, such as office tours, employee challenges, or humorous takes on your industry, work well. Contests and giveaways prompt interaction while offering value to your audience.

13:24
What I shared today is a combination of content that could be used for you as a career builder, whether you have a position in a corporation or you're an entrepreneur or business owner. Remember, you can share content outside the digital world as well. Public speaking engagements, writing articles for industry publications, or hosting workshops and webinars are all ways to share your knowledge and showcase your experience. Thought leadership isn't just about broadcasting your own ideas; it's about fostering meaningful conversations and building genuine connections with your audience. Take the time to respond to comments, answer questions, and engage in discussions. By embracing these content strategies, you can position yourself as a thought leader, drive meaningful conversations, and elevate your personal brand to new heights.
